Installation and Reference Guide HP StorageWorks Secure Path 3.0F Service Pack 4 for HP-UX 11i v1.0 and 11i v2.0 (5697-8001, March 2009)
autopath virtualdsf command
The autopath virtualdsf command creates and updates the virtual device special files for the
LUNs.
Syntax:
#autopath virtualdsf [clean]
The virtual device files are created for all the LUNs under Secure Path's control. The virtual device
files for all the undiscovered, deleted, and collided LUNs gets deleted.
The virtual device special file is a link to the physical path of the device configured under HP LVM
and dynamically points to the next active path of the device (when the configured primary path fails
and the system reboots), provided the auto-discovery is set to ON. If auto-discovery is set to its default
OFF value, you must run the autopath discover command to update the virtual device files to
point to the alive paths.
The autopath virtualdsf command is different from the autopath discover command,
because, it does not discover any new LUNs. It only creates the device special files for the LUNs that
are already under Secure Path's control.
NOTE:
You cannot use the virtual device file with the autopath add command or when configuring the
device under HP LVM.
autopath virtualdsf clean command
The autopath virtualdsf clean command releases the virtual device files allocated for the
LUNs that are deleted from Secure Path's control.
If you run the autopath delete command to remove a LUN from Secure Path’s control, the LUN
is disassociated from its virtual device special file. However, the virtual device file alias associated
with the deleted LUN is reused for a new LUN only if you run the autopath virtualdsf clean command.
Syntax:
# autopath virtualdsf clean
Example:
AUTOPATH: The virtual alias hpap258 is freed and would be reused
AUTOPATH: The virtual alias hpap259 is freed and would be reused
The alias hpap258 and hpap259 in the above example belong to the LUN's that are removed from
Secure Path's control using the autopath delete command.
autopath monitor command
The autopath monitor command activates the automatic path recovery and pro-active path
monitoring process automatically during system reboot. You can invoke the automatic path recovery
and pro-active path monitoring feature from the command line, if it is not invoked automatically or is
terminated.
