2 Integrating OCFS2 with HP Serviceguard for Linux
This chapter describes the procedure and related information to integrate OCFS2 with HP
Serviceguard for Linux.

Overview of the Integration
Oracle Cluster File System 2 (OCFS2) has been developed to function as an independent cluster.
The Cluster Manager, O2CB, primarily focusses on managing cluster membership. While it has
its set of advantages, OCFS2 is not designed to manage complex cluster configurations. On the
other hand, HP Serviceguard for Linux has a set of advanced capabilities that provides robust
support in complex cluster configurations. Integrating OCFS2 and HP Serviceguard for Linux
provides high availability for applications and services in a cluster environment, and uses the
advantages of a cluster file system.
However, integrating OCFS2 with HP Serviceguard for Linux needs careful thought and planning.
There are a number of guidelines that must be followed while integrating the two software
products. The subsequent sections elaborate on these design considerations as well as describe
the prerequisites for this integration.
Guidelines for Integrating OCFS2 with HP Serviceguard for Linux
Following are some of the guidelines that need to be followed to integrate OCFS2 with HP
Serviceguard for Linux:
• A common network link must be present between the clusters.
OCFS2 does not support multiple communication links. So, Linux channel bonded interface
must be used to create a common network link. Configure HP Serviceguard for Linux to
send heartbeat messages only over this bonded interface.
• The OCFS2 cluster timeout values must be set such that it reacts slower than Serviceguard
in addressing cluster failure scenarios.
Supported Operating Systems
Following are the operating systems on which OCFS2 can be integrated with HP Serviceguard
for Linux:
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, SP1
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, SP2
