Managing HP Serviceguard Extension for SAP for Linux (May 2013)
For more information on file system configurations, see chapter 4 “SAP cluster storage layout
planning” (page 30).
There can also be a requirement to convert an existing SAP instance or database for usage in a
Serviceguard cluster environment. For more information on how to convert an existing SAP instance
or database see, “Converting an existing SAP instance” (page 79).
SGeSAP modules and services
The following components are important for the configuration of a Serviceguard package with
SGeSAP:
• Modules and the scripts that are used by these modules.
• Service monitors.
SGeSAP modules
Various Serviceguard and SGeSAP modules are available for clustering SAP instances and database
instances. These modules contain attribute definitions that describe an SAP instances or database
instances required to configure them into a Serviceguard package. The following points give an
overview of the top-level SGeSAP modules:
Table 15 SGeSAP modules
DescriptionModule
For clustering of one or more SAP instances such as SAP Central Instances,
System Central Services, Replication Instances, ABAP Application Servers, JAVA
sgesap/sapinstance
Application Servers, Web Dispatcher, Gateway, and MDM instances of a single
SAP system.
For Oracle, MaxDB, DB2 and Sybase ASE RDBMS databases.sgesap/dbinstance
For handling external instances (SAP software running in a non-clustered
environment).
sgesap/sapextinstance
For clustering SAP infrastructure software.sgesap/sapinfra
For clustering SAP liveCache instances.sgesap/livecache
For handling SAP MDM repositories.sgesap/mdminstance
NOTE: These modules can also include other common SGeSAP and Serviceguard modules that
are required to setup a complete package.
SGeSAP services
SGeSAP provides monitors that can be used with the sg/service module, which monitor the
health of the SAP instances and their databases. Some monitors also offer local restart functionality.
For example, in the case of an instance failure, the monitors attempt to restart the instance on the
same node before initiating a package failover. The following monitors are provided with SGeSAP:
Table 16 SGeSAP monitors
DescriptionMonitor
To monitor a message service that comes as part of a Central Instance or System
Central Service Instance for ABAP/JAVA usage.
sapms.mon
To monitor an enqueue service that comes as part of a System Central Service
Instance for ABAP/JAVA usage.
sapenq.mon
To monitor an enqueue replication service that comes as part of an Enqueue
Replication Instance.
