HP Serviceguard for Linux Version A.11.18 Release Notes, 2nd Edition, March 2009
Rules
1. Serviceguard for Linux must be halted (not running) on the node from which the
rpm -e command is issued.
2. The node from which the rpm -e command is issued must not be a member of
any cluster.
3. The rpm -e command should be issued from one system at a time. That is, if
Serviceguard for Linux is being uninstalled from more than one system, it should
be removed from one system at a time.
Rolling Software Upgrades
You can upgrade the Linux operating system and the Serviceguard software one node
at a time without bringing down your clusters. This process can also be used any time
one system needs to be taken offline for hardware maintenance or patch installations.
Until the process of upgrade is complete on all nodes, you cannot change the cluster
configuration files, and you will not be able to use any of the features of the new
Serviceguard release.
Rolling upgrade is supported with any of the supported revisions of Serviceguard.
You can roll forward from any previous revision to any higher revision. For example,
it is possible to roll from Serviceguard version A.11.16.02 on Red Hat EL 3 to version
A.11.18 on Red Hat EL 4.
For information about supported Serviceguard versions, Linux distributions, and
related software and hardware, see the resources listed under ‘“Further Information”
(page 49).
Requirements
To upgrade a Linux Serviceguard node to a newer Serviceguard release, you need to
make sure of the following:
• The node must be running with a supported version of Linux (Red Hat 4, SLES 10
etc.)
• The node must be running a supported release of Serviceguard (Example:
A.11.16.02)
NOTE: If the target version of Serviceguard does not support the version of the
operating system currently on the node, then you must upgrade the operating
system before upgrading Serviceguard.
• The OS upgrade for the node must be from and to the same Linux distribution
(Example: Red Hat EL 3 to Red Hat EL 4; not Red Hat EL 3 to SLES 10)
• All members of the cluster must be upgraded to the same version of OS and the
Serviceguard.
