HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform 3.0.4 Release Notes (5697-0763, November 2010)
Enhancements
This release of the SVSP product introduces the following enhancements:
• Pre-installations of the VSM server operating system will use Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
instead of Windows Server 2008 SP2.
• The VSM server hardware changes to an HP ProLiant DL360 G7. Information on the features of
this server can be obtained from:
http://www.hp.com/support/manuals
Under servers, select ProLiant ml/dl and tc series servers, and then under HP ProLiant DL servers,
select HP ProLiant DL360 G7 Server series.
• A new HP SVSP base starter kit bundle (BV894A) is available that consists of two DPMs, two
DL360 G7 VSM servers, 10 TB Volume Manager license, installation and startup service, 1 year
of software support, and one customer training seat.
VSM CLI enhancement
The VSM CLI is now supported on HP Command View EVA management servers running HP Command
View 9.2 or later. Although there are no co-existence issues, HP Command View EVA performance
may be slightly impacted, as well as any layered applications that use HP Command View EVA.
Fixes
The following issues were fixed since HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform version
3.0.2:
• VSM detects when the VSM LSI QLogic driver is overwritten, which occurred when HP ProLiant
Support Pack (PSP) updates were installed. The VSM server now reboots and installs the correct
driver. HP Insight Management Agents for the VSM are supported.
• An iSCSI target portal could not be added using the SVSP Monitor.
• Due to a bug in the Windows agent, both VSMs could enter a rolling failed state that stopped
when one VSM is disconnected from the SAN.
• After installing the VSM software, Windows could corrupt a LUN mounted on the VSM server.
Previous guidance was to disable Automount in Windows. The issue has been resolved and
Automount should remain enabled after installing VSM software. If Automount was previously
disabled, it should be enabled.
• Modified the NTP mechanism of the DPM to work in connectionless mode (no verification of the
validity of the specified NTP server).
• The VSM could remove the permissions from a passive DPM when creating a synchronous mirror
group.
• Users were unable to login to the kmonitor group.
• An internal PiT could not be created due to improper permissions or I/O errors and prevented the
creation of a thin virtual disk.
• A Windows 2008 cluster failure may occur due to a persistent reservation request.
• The DPM went into an endless loop when trying to swap mapping space due to memory errors.
Mapping space is now conserved to allow larger synchronous mirrors.
• Persistent reservation issue where VSM reboot causes Windows 2008 R2 cluster to failover the
active cluster node.
