8 XP7 storage system rules
This chapter describes rules for the XP7 storage system in a mainframe environment.
XP7 storage systems
Before implementation, contact an HP storage representative for information about support for
specific configurations, including the following:
• Storage system firmware
• FICON director models and firmware
• Mainframe models and operating system version
Vision and Storage Magic
Vision (formally RMF Magic) enables you to understand and optimize the performance of I/O
workloads for your disk subsystem. It uses RMF or CMF data to generate reports that provide
storage, performance, and capacity planning professionals with detailed insight of storage
performance.
Storage Magic uses the information collected by Vision to provide performance predictions that
help you to determine which disk configuration options are best for your workload.
For more information about Vision or Storage Magic, contact your local HP sales or storage
representative.
Table 48 (page 97) describes the combinations of mainframe operating systems that support shared
access with XP7 storage systems.
