HP Mainframe Connectivity Design Guide

FCP point-to-point configurations (directly attached, with no Fibre Channel director)
Cascaded FICON directors
When building a FICON SAN with the zEnterprise 196 processor, consider the following:
The maximum number of FICON channel cards depends on the mainframe model and if the
mainframe contains other channel cards. For example, if the mainframe has ESCON or OSA
cards, this reduces the number of FICON channel cards supported.
FCV channels are not supported.
FCP mode CHPIDs cannot connect to a FICON CU or FICON director. Use FCP mode to
connect to Fibre Channel directors and devices from an LPAR running zLinux.
Arbitrated loop topologies are not supported with FCP mode.
IBM zEnterprise 114
IBM zEnterprise 114 processors support:
Four LCSSs
Maximum of 64 FICON Express 4 (four port cards only), FICON Express 4-2C, and/or FICON
Express 8 cards, for a total of 128 FICON ports
FCP point-to-point configurations (directly attached with no Fibre Channel director)

IBM zEnterprise EC12
IBM zEnterprise EC12 processors support:
Four LCSSs
Maximum of 160 FICON Express 8S cards for a total of 320 FICON ports, or up to 44 FICON
Express 8 or FICON Express 4 cards for a total of 176 FICON ports

zLinux connectivity overview
This section focuses on mainframe environments in which zLinux is connected to an HP disk array
that supports mainframe SCSI connectivity. It is not intended to be all-encompassing of potential
devices that are supported by zLinux and FCP channels.
