FCP mode.
• HDS and ADL Millennium 2000c mainframes are compatible with the S/390 processors.
IBM zSeries processor FICON support rules
IBM zSeries processors are the current family of mainframes. The processors run the z/OS operating
system, and offer the following FICON features:
• FICON (FC) native mode CHPID support
• FCV mode CHPID support
NOTE: Not all zSeries channel cards support FCV mode.
• FCP mode CHPID support
NOTE: Not all zSeries channel cards support FCP mode.
• Point-to-point support (directly attached to the CU without a FICON director)
• Single-switch fabric support
• Cascaded director support
NOTE: Cascaded director support depends on the operating system revision level.
• 2315 and 2318 FICON channel cards (discontinued)
• 2319 and 2320 FICON Express channel cards
• 3319 and 3320 FICON Express 2 channel cards
IBM z800
IBM z800 processors support:
• One CSS
• Maximum of 16 FICON Express cards, for a total of 32 FICON ports
IBM z890
IBM z890 processors support:
• Two LCSSs
• Maximum of 20 FICON Express or FICON Express 2 cards, for a total of 80 FICON ports
NOTE: Mainframe model 2086-110 supports a maximum of 16 channel cards, for a total
of 64 FICON ports.
IBM z900
IBM z900 processors support:
• One CSS
• Maximum of 48 FICON cards or FICON Express cards, for a total of 96 FICON ports
