Zoning limits and enforcement
This section describes zoning limits and enforcement for McDATA FICON directors.
Table 30 (page 69) lists the zoning limits for McDATA FICON directors with firmware 09.xx.xx.

Zoning guidelines for McDATA FICON directors
To configure McDATA FICON director zoning, observe the following best practices:
All FICON ports should be in the same zone, Open VSAN, or SAN LPAR (Mi10K only).
For FICON-only fabrics, the fabric should be in one zone (no zoning required).
In an intermix environment, do not mix FCP and FICON ports in the same zone or Open
VSAN. Use Fibre Channel zoning guidelines for the FCP ports, as described in the HP SAN
Design Reference Guide. For more information about intermix, see “FICON SAN best practices”
(page 154).
In an Mi10K-only fabric, use SAN LPARs to separate FICON ports from FCP ports.
Disable the default zone for production ports.
The default zone allows any-to-any connectivity, automatically including all ports in the fabric.
The maximum number of zone members must not be exceeded. To prevent inadvertent
FCP-to-FICON connectivity, disable the default zone and define port zones.
Do not configure E_Ports (ISL ports) in a zone.
If all ports on the director are FICON or FCP ports for disk mirroring, suppress zone RSCNs
on zoneset activation. RSCNs are not used for FICON or disk mirroring (HP P9000/XP
Continuous Access Software).
