Table 27 McDATA FICON fabric rules (continued)
DescriptionRule number
You must assign a unique domain number (domain ID), unique switch number, and unique WWN
to each director. Directors of the same model must have the same configuration parameter settings.
The domain ID and switch number are two different parameters in the McDATA directors.
9
In an intermix environment, do not configure any directors with a domain ID of 8, which is reserved
for HP-UX.
10
Supported domain and switch IDs:11
• For the following models, use 96 to 239 decimal or x'60' to x'EF' hexadecimal:
M6064◦
◦ M6140
• For the Mi10K and M4700, use 1 to 239 decimal or x'01' to x'EF' hexadecimal.
The switch ID is based on the configured domain ID plus the domain offset. The default offset is 96
decimal (60 hexadecimal). EOS 9.0 (or later) is required to change the domain offset. If you change
the default offset to zero, the switch ID and domain ID become the same. It is considered a best
practice for the domain ID to be the same value as the switch ID.
If CUP is enabled, port x'FE' on the director is the default port, making it and port x'FF'

unavailable.
On the 140-port directors (M6140), the port numbers range from 0 to 127 and 132 to 143 decimal.
Ports 128 to 131 are internal ports and are not available for external connections.
13
Some McDATA directors use a port offset for addressing. See “Port offset” (page 68).14
NOTE: Not all topologies can support the maximum port or director count.
Port offset
The M6064 and M6140 FICON directors use a port offset when the link addresses are configured
in the host's HCD and IOCP. The port offset is x'04' and is added to the physical port numbers in
the director for configuring on the host. For example, physical port x'00' on the director is configured
as link address x'04' on the host. This offset does not affect the CUP port (x'FE'). Table 28 (page
68) describes the port offsets for the McDATA FICON directors.

NOTE: The Mi10K and the M4700 do not use port offsets.
ISL maximums for McDATA FICON directors
You can use all ports on all McDATA FICON directors for ISLs, with a maximum of 50% of the ISLs
configured to the same destination director. Table 29 (page 69) lists the ISL maximums forMcDATA
FICON directors.
