HP Mainframe Connectivity Design Guide

Director models
Table 24 (page 64) describes the Brocade McDATA FICON directors.
HP supports P9500 and XP connectivity to McDATA FICON directors in a fabric if you:
Use the firmware versions listed in Table 24 (page 64). All FICON directors in the same fabric
or SAN must use the same firmware version. When updating director firmware, you can use
two successive firmware versions temporarily in the same fabric or SAN.
Follow the fabric rules. See “Fabric rules” (page 67).
For the latest information on supported McDATA FICON directors and firmware versions, contact
an HP storage representative.

The McDATA FICON directors support FICON and FCP ports in the same fabric or SAN. Using
zoning, SAN LPARs, or Open VSANs, you must configure the directors to prevent interaction
between the FICON and FCP ports. For example, you can configure all FICON ports in the same
zone, without any FCP ports.
The McDATA FICON director switching modules support a combination of FICON and FCP ports.
For example, a 32-port LIM card in the Mi10K can support 32 FCP ports, 32 FICON ports, or a
combination of FICON and FCP ports. For information about Fibre Channel SANs, see HP SAN
Design Reference Guide.
