number
FICON directors with CUP enabled are configured on the mainframe as follows:5
• Device type = 2032
• LCU = x'00'
• Device address (unit address) = x'00'
• Link address = x'FE'
There is a maximum of 60 MDS directors, 4,000 total ports, and 3,500 user ports.6
SN8000C 6-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 2 Director Switches and MDS 9506 support up to 192 ports over
4 modular slots (four 48-port modules).
nl
7
For information about the 48-port module, see “C-series FICON directors” (page 46).
HP SN8000C 9-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 2 Director Switch and MDS 9509 support up to 336 ports
over 7 modular slots (seven 48-port modules).
nl
8
For information about the 48-port module, see “C-series FICON directors” (page 46).
NOTE: This requires the Supervisor-2 Switching Module.
HP SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 2 Director Switch, SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric
3 Director Switch, and MDS 9513 support up to 528 ports over 11 modular slots (eleven 48-port modules).
nl
9
For information about the 48-port module, see “C-series FICON directors” (page 46).
There is a maximum of 80 VSANs per fabric.
NOTE: All FICON ports should be in the same VSAN.
10
You must assign a unique domain number (domain ID) and a unique WWN to each director. Directors
of the same model must have the same configuration parameter settings. In C-series directors, the domain
ID is also the switch ID.
11
In an intermix environment, do not configure any directors with a domain ID of 8, which is
nl
12
reserved for HP-UX.
Supported domain and switch IDs are 1 to 239 decimal (configured on the director) or x'01' to x'EF'
hexadecimal (configured on the host).
13
If CUP is enabled, port x'FE' on the director is the default port, making it and port x'FF'
nl
14
unavailable.
When using the FTA feature:15
• PortChannels are not supported on the FCIP ISLs.
• If there are multiple FCIP ISLs between switches, the VSANs must be configured so that each device
uses only one FCIP ISL. There must be only one FCIP ISL per VSAN.
• FICON tape and virtual tape devices must run in single path mode. FTA does not support multiple
paths varied online to the same tape device.
NOTE: Not all topologies can support the maximum port or director count.
ISL maximums for C-series FICON directors
You can use all full-rate ports on all C-series FICON directors for ISLs, with a maximum of 50% of
the ISLs configured to the same destination director. Table 21 (page 60) lists the ISL maximums for
directors with higher port counts.
