C-series Family Modules, which include a 48-port 16Gb FC Module.
◦ The HP StoreFabric SN8500C 48-port 16Gb FC Module is recommended for
high-performance 16 Gb/s enterprise-level host connections, storage connections, and
ISL connections.
◦ The HP StoreFabric SN8500C Fabric-1 Module (up to six total per chassis) allows N+1
Fabric Modules protection to provide zero impact to application bandwidth in the event
of a fabric card or supervisor card failure.

Director Switches, HP SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 2 Director Switches, HP
SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 3 Director Switches, and MDS 9506, MDS 9509,
and MDS 9513 directors can accommodate Fibre Channel Switching Modules (FICON and
FCP), an IPS, a Multi-protocol Services Module, and an SSM. (The SSM is not discussed in
this guide.)
◦ The 12-port 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel Switching Module is recommended for FICON Express
4 CHPID connections, storage connections, and ISL connections.
◦ The 16-port 2 Gb/s Fibre Channel Switching Module is recommended for FICON, FICON
Express, or FICON Express 2 CHPID connections, storage connections, and ISL
connections.
◦ The 24-port 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel Switching Module uses 2:1 internal oversubscription
across four 6-port port groups, and is recommended for FICON and FICON Express 2
CHPID connections, FICON Express 4 CHPID connections (when CHPIDs do not operate
at the full-rate speed simultaneously), midrange storage connections, tape device
connections, and other CU connections.
◦ The 48-port 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel Switching Module uses 4:1 internal oversubscription
across four 12-port port groups, and is recommended for FICON and FICON Express 2
CHPID connections with low-bandwidth requirements, low-bandwidth tape device
connections, and other CU connections.
◦ The 24-port 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel Switching Module uses eight 3-port port groups at
12.8 Gb/s per port group, and is recommended for FICON Express 8 CHPID connections,
8 Gb/s storage connections, and ISL connections.
◦ The 48-port 8 Gb/s Performance Fibre Channel Switching Module uses eight 6-port port
groups at 12.8 Gb/s per port group, and is recommended for FICON Express 4 or
FICON Express 8 CHPID connections, and 4 or 8 Gb/s storage connections.
◦ The 48-port 8 Gb/s Host-Optimized Fibre Channel Switching Module uses four 12-port
port groups at 12.8 Gb/s per port group, and is recommended for FICON Express 2,
FICON Express 4 or FICON Express 8 CHPID connections (when CHPIDs do not operate
at the full rated speed simultaneously), midrange storage connections, tape device
connections, and other CU connections.
◦ The 4-port 10 Gb/s Fibre Channel Switching Module is ideal for high-bandwidth ISL
connectivity and inter-data-center connection over a metropolitan optical infrastructure.
