FICON director database size
Table 11 (page 42) describes the database size rules for B-series FICON directors in a fabric.
Table 11 Database size rules for B-series FICON directors
DescriptionRule number
SFOS—With security enabled in a fabric, the maximum security database size is as follows:1
• If the fabric contains any 1 Gb/s directors, the maximum size is 32 KB, with only 16 KB active.
The maximum number of DCC policies is 620.
• If the fabric contains 2 Gb/s or 4 Gb/s directors only, the maximum size is 128 KB, with 64 KB
active.
• With Fabric OS 6.x, the maximum size is 1 MB.
This database, which stores DCC, SCC, and FCS policies, can support ACL security settings for
environments with up to 14,000 attached devices. This feature is not supported with the 4/16 SAN
Switch.
NOTE: Starting with firmware 5.2.0a, ACL has replaced SFOS.
Advanced Zoning—The maximum zoning database size is as follows:2
• If all directors in a fabric are using 5.2x (or later) firmware, the database size must not exceed 1
MB.
• If the fabric contains 1 Gb/s directors with 2.6.1x (or later) firmware, the database must not exceed
96 KB.
• If the fabric contains 2 Gb/s or 4 Gb/s directors with 2.6.1x (or later) firmware, the database
must not exceed 256 KB.
NOTE: Use the cfgsize command to determine the size of the zoning database.
ISL maximums for B-series FICON directors
You can use all ports on all B-series FICON directors as ISLs, with a maximum of 50% of the ISLs
configured to the same destination director.
NOTE: Some directors require licensing for additional ISL ports.

Zoning guidelines for B-series FICON directors
To configure B-series FICON director zoning, observe the following best practices:
• All FICON ports should be in the same zone.
• For FICON-only fabrics, the fabric should be in one zone.
• The FICON zone requires port-based routing.
