HP Mainframe Connectivity Design Guide

Table 10 B-series FICON fabric rules
DescriptionRule number
All FICON directors in the same fabric or SAN must use the same firmware version. When updating
director firmware, you can use two successive director firmware versions temporarily in the SAN.
1
In general, FICON fabrics and intermix fabrics must contain directors of the same series. For exceptions,
see “Interoperability with McDATA directors” (page 44).
2
In addition to the series-specific zoning rules covered in “B-series FICON directors and fabric rules”
(page 29), “C-series FICON directors and fabric rules” (page 46), and “McDATA FICON directors
3
and fabric rules” (page 63), FICON directors with CUP enabled also support PDCM. Mainframe
fabric administrators use this matrix to allow or prohibit connectivity between FICON ports on the
director. Administrators can also use PDCM to block or unblock a port. Blocking a port prohibits all
connectivity through that port, effectively disabling it.
There is a maximum of one hop (two directors) between any two communicating FICON
devices—mainframe to CU, or mainframe CTC.
NOTE: ICLs are not included in the hop count. For more information, see “SN8000B 8-Slot Director,
SN8000B 4-Slot Director, DC SAN Backbone Director, and DC04 SAN Director inter-chassis links
(page 38).
4
FICON directors with CUP enabled are configured on the mainframe as follows:5
Device type = 2032
LCU = x'00'
Device address (unit address) = x'00'
Link address = x'FE' (default)
A maximum of 56 switches and 2,560 virtual or physical connections in a single fabric with:6
HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch, HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director Switch,
HP SN6000B 16Gb FC Switch or SN6000B 16Gb FC Switch using firmware 7.xor later
DC SAN Backbone, or DC04 SAN Directors, 8/8, 8/24, 8/40, 8/80, 4/8, 4/16, 4/32B, 4/32,
4/64, or 4/256 switches using firmware 6.x or later
2/64 or 2/128 switches using firmware 5.3.x or later
A maximum of 16 DC SAN Backbone Director, DC04 SAN Director chassis, or 6,000 virtual or
physical connections (WWNs logged into a single fabric), are supported in a fabric containing HP
SN8000B 8-Slot Backbone Directors, HP SN8000B 4-Slot Backbone Directors, DC SAN Backbone
Directors, or DC04 SAN Directors only.
A maximum of 4,096 virtual or physical connections are supported in a fabric containing other switch
models using firmware 6.1.x or later
Maximum of 56 switches, 2,560 total ports, and 2,300 user ports in a single fabric with 4/32B,
4/32, 4/64, or 4/256 Switches using firmware 5.x (or later)
7
4/256 SAN Director—Maximum of 20 chassis per fabric with 16-port FICON/FCP blades only;
maximum of 10 chassis per fabric with 32-port FICON/FCP blades only. For all
nl
8
configurations, the maximum total port count must not exceed 2,560. Each chassis adds one director
to the fabric switch count if it, the chassis, is configured as one domain.
2/128 SAN Director—Maximum of 20 chassis per fabric. Each chassis adds one director to the
fabric switch count if it, the chassis, is configured as one domain.
9
Core Switch 2/64 and 4/64—Maximum of 20 chassis per fabric. Each chassis contains two logical
directors, adding two directors to the fabric switch count.
10
You must assign a unique domain number (domain ID) and a unique WWN to each director. Directors
of the same model must have the same configuration parameter settings. In B-series directors, the
domain ID is also the switch ID.
11
In an intermix environment, do not configure any directors with a domain ID of 8, which is reserved
for HP-UX.
12
Supported domain and switch IDs are 1 to 239 decimal (as configured on the director) or x'01' to
x'EF' hexadecimal (as configured on the host).
