Level 2: single resilient fabric
Level 2 provides fabric path redundancy by using multiple FICON directors with multiple ISLs to
provide connectivity between the directors . Each mainframe and storage system has one path to
the fabric. If an ISL fiber or ISL director port failure occurs, the director automatically reroutes data
through an alternate ISL and there is no interruption in mainframe I/O activity. Figure 5 (page 21)
shows a level 2 fabric.
