A cascaded FICON fabric consists of the following:
• Entry switch—The FICON director directly connected to the FICON channel in the mainframe
• Cascaded switch—A second director attached to the CU
• ISL—The link between the two directors (can consist of multiple ISLs)
NOTE: The entry switch is the director attached to the CHPID, and the cascaded switch is the
second director after the ISL. These terms describe how directors are defined in the mainframe
configuration. A FICON director can be both an entry switch and a cascaded switch if it has both
mainframes and CUs connected to it.
