HP Mainframe Connectivity Design Guide

HP P9000
Continuous Access
An HP product consisting of two or more P9500 disk arrays performing disk-to-disk replication,
along with the management user interface that facilitates configuring, monitoring, and maintaining
the replication capabilities of the storage systems.
HP XP Continuous
Access
An HP product consisting of two or more XP disk arrays performing disk-to-disk replication, along
with the management user interface that facilitates configuring, monitoring, and maintaining the
replication capabilities of the storage systems.
I
ICL Inter-chassis link. A licensed feature that provides dedicated high-bandwidth links between two
DC SAN Backbone Director chassis.
IDID Insistent domain identifier.
in-band
communication
Communication through the same communications channel as the operational data.
IOAM I/O adapter module.
IOCDS I/O control data set. A mainframe definition of information related to I/O and peripheral devices.
IOCP I/O control program. A manual process for building an IOCDS.
IODF I/O definition file. A configuration file created by the HCD.
IOS I/O subsystem.
IPS C-series IP Storage Services Module.
IPsec Internet Protocol Security. A method of data encryption.
IRD Intelligent resource director. An internal mainframe process that directs resources to priority
workloads.
iSCSI Internet Small Computer System Interface. A standard protocol that uses SCSI commands to
transfer data over IP networks.
ISL Interswitch link. A connection between two directors.
L
LC Lucent connector. An industry-standard connector for fiber optic cable connections.
LCSS Logical channel subsystem.
LCU Logical control unit. A logical partitioning of the storage system, also known as a control unit
image.
LCU number A unique identifier assigned to an LCU.
LDEV Logical device.
See also device.
LDKC Logical disk control unit.
LIM Line interface module. A module in the Mi10K.
logical device See LDEV.
logical path A communication path between the LPAR and the LCU.
lossless A data routing algorithm that retains all information in the data, guaranteeing delivery of all
FC/FICON frames though the fabric.
LPAR Logical partition. A virtual server that can share resources.
LSAN Logical storage area network. An interconnected network of independent fabrics for B-series
switches.
LUN Logical unit number. An identification scheme for storage disks.
M
MA Multiple allegiance. A feature that allows the assignment of multiple alias addresses to a disk
device, enabling I/O data transfers from different LPARs to access the same data simultaneously.
