access
authorization
A fabric security method that provides frame-level access control in hardware and verifies the
SID-DID combination of each frame. Also known as hard zoning.
access methods An IBM term for software that moves data between main storage and I/O devices to create
channel programs and manage system buffers.
ACL Access Control List. A data protection feature that restricts access to data resources based on
defined policies.
ACS Array Controller Software. The firmware that runs on HSG80 controller-based storage systems.
arbitrated loop See FC-AL.
ARL Adaptive Rate Limiting. A feature that dynamically adjusts data transmission through the TCP
connections in a FCIP tunnel.
ATM Asynchronous Transfer Mode. Communications networking technology for LANs and WANs;
carries information in fixed-size cells of 53 bytes (5 protocol and 48 data).
