C-series FTA and XRCA licenses
The FTA feature is included with the Mainframe Package license. The SAN Extension over FCIP
Package license is a prerequisite to use the FTA feature. FTA is supported by the 14/2 Multiprotocol
Services Module, the 18/4 Multiservice Module, and the 9222i Multilayer Fabric Switch. The
9222i includes the SAN Extension over IP license as part of its base configuration. PortChannels
are not supported with the FTA feature.
C-series FICON directors also have an optional XRCA license, available from IBM via an RPQ.
This feature is specifically designed to support the IBM TotalStorage Global Mirror (Extended
Remote Copy or XRC) application over extended FCIP ISLs. The Mainframe Package and the SAN
Extension over FCIP Package licenses are prerequisites for installing the XRCA license. XRCA is
supported by the 18/4 Multiservice Module and the 9222i Multilayer Fabric Switch. The 9222i
includes the SAN Extension over IP license as part of its base configuration. PortChannels are
supported. The XRCA license can be installed and configured on HP-supplied C-series FICON
directors.
NOTE: FTA and XRCA cannot be enabled on the same FCIP tunnel interface and cannot exist in
the same VSAN.
VSANs and FTA
When using the FICON Accelerator, if there are multiple FCIP ISLs available from the CHPID to
the device, even if the FCIP ISLs are on different directors, VSANs must be configured with only
one FCIP ISL in each FICON VSAN. If there are multiple FCIP ISLs in the same VSAN, the FTA
feature cannot be enabled.
The VSANs contain a set of N_Ports (CHPIDs and CUs) and one E_Port (the FCIP ISL). This forces
all devices associated with a CHPID and CU pair of ports to always use the same FCIP ISL. This
ensures that all commands, data, and status information for each emulated device flows on the
same FCIP ISL, as required for the accelerator.
