1606 Extension SAN Switch and DC Dir Switch MP Extension Blade FCIP extension options
When B-series FICON directors (DC SAN Backbone Director, DC04 SAN Director, and 4/256
SAN Director) are used in conjunction with B-series FCIP extension products (1606 Extension SAN
Switch and DC Dir Switch MP Extension Blade [FX8-24]), they are certified for FICON extension
in the five configurations shown in Figure 31 (page 146).

When 1606 Extension SAN Switches are used between the director and the IP circuit, as shown
in the top three configurations in Figure 31 (page 146), FICON connections from CHPIDs or CUs
to the 1606 Extension SAN Switches are not allowed. FICON connections from CHPIDs or CUs
are allowed on the end 1606 Extension SAN Switch only, as shown in the third and fourth
configuration from the top of Figure 31 (page 146). This restriction does not apply to the FX8-24
blade.
B-series 400 MP Router and MP Router Blade
The B-series 400 MP Router and MP Router Blade offer FCIP SAN extension and FICON/Fibre
Channel switching. You can use all three functions on the same 400 MP Router or MP Router Blade
simultaneously. A 400 MP Router or MP Router Blade can have:
Up to 2 GbE IP ports for FCIP

NOTE: The Fibre Channel routing services of the 1606 Extension SAN Switch and DC Dir Switch

The 400 MP Router and MP Router Blade can support FICON extension up to 300 km.
