HP RIP Software - User Guide

Creating a Color Profile 4-13
Creating a
Color Profile
You can create custom ICC color profiles to ensure accurate color
reproduction with specific combinations of ink sets, print settings, and
media. This optional feature is available if enabled by your software
license.
Creating a profile consists of configuring ink limits, linearization curves,
and color. The process consists of the following stages:
1. Prepare the Printer - load media into the printer, calibrate the print
heads, calibrate the external device (spectrophotometer)
2. Basic Info - specify media and ink set options
3. Print Ramp Limits - print and read linearization targets to generate
hue angles for the component colors of the ink set
4. Set Ink Limits - set the ink limits for each color
5. Linearization Curves - verify the linearization curves on a graph or
9-ramp printed chart.
6. Total Ink Limit - specify a total ink limit
7. Target Configuration - set up the profiling targets and read them
8. Profile Settings - configure the black settings and other options,
and generate the profile
9. Gamut Display - view the gamut graph and other information about
the finished profile
Each of these parts is explained in the following sections. All but the first
part correspond to a tab in the RIP interface, which guides you through
the process.
Caution Clicking the Cancel button on these screens, or refresh-
ing or closing the browser will abort the entire profile cre-
ation process and return you to the first tab.
Note All profiles created by the RIP are created with a percep-
tual rendering intent.
