ColorSpan Legacy Printing Tools - User Guide for Microsoft Windows OS

1-2 Introduction
Introduction The Printing Tools are a collection of printer description files,
applications, and fonts.
The Image Utility enables you to transfer (download) files in
various formats directly to the RIP for printing. This is sim-
pler and faster than opening an application program and
document file, and then printing the file. This utility can also
download PostScript Type 1 compatible fonts to the RIP, and
apply transformations (such as scaling or rotating) to the
image before downloading. See Chapter 2, Image Utility, for
instructions.
Digital Typeface Corporation (DTC) MasterWorks fonts
are a collection of PostScript Type 1 compatible fonts. These
fonts are factory-installed on the RIP, but you must also
install a font on your computer to use and display it on your
computer’s monitor. See “Installing and Using Fonts” on
page 1-5, for further information.
Printer Description Files are used by applications, operat-
ing systems, and printer drivers to determine valid page
sizes and special device options available for each printer.
See Appendix B, PostScript Printer Description Files, for fur-
ther information.
