Tips & Tricks
The following are a few extra items that may help correct PostScript errors.
1. If you are using the LaserWriter 8 on the Macintosh, try using LaserWriter 8.2.2, or LaserWriter
7.1.2.
2. Turn off Print Manager (in Windows) or Background Printing (In the Mac Chooser).
3. Avoid using low-quality fonts from a non-reputable vendor. The money saved in buying these fonts
may be more than offset in headaches in getting them to print.
4. Vector Graphics: Programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand can create vector
graphics, often referred to as EPS files. Avoid nesting of EPS graphics, that is, an EPS placed in a
file, with added art, and then exported as an EPS again, then finally placed in a page layout.
Nested EPS files can often cause printing problems.
5. If you are printing from Windows, make sure that your WIN.INI isn’t nearing the 64k size limitation.
An excessive number of fonts and/or numbers port configurations can cause the WIN.INI to swell
past 64k easily.
6. Try deleting and re-installing the PostScript driver using the ColorSpan Printing Tools disk or
System Software Disks. Make sure that the most recent version of the driver is being installed.
