HP XP24000/XP20000 for FlashCopy Mirroring Software User Guide (T5240-96012, November 2011)
Remote FlashCopy Function
The Remote FlashCopy function allows you to perform operations on Version 2 relationships on
the TrueCopy for Mainframe remote storage system from the host connected to the TrueCopy for
Mainframe main storage system.
The Remote FlashCopy operation proceeds in the following steps:
1. A FlashCopy operation command is issued to the TrueCopy for Mainframe M-VOL.
2. The command is transmitted from the MCU (Main Control Unit) to the RCU (Remote Control
Unit).
3. The storage system identifies the TrueCopy for Mainframe R-VOL as the Version 2 S-VOL, and
performs a Remote FlashCopy operation on the Version 2 relationships (for example, it creates
a relationship, releases a relationship, and displays information about a relationship).
You cannot perform the Remote FlashCopy function in the following cases:
• If FlashCopy operation command is not issued to the TrueCopy for Mainframe M-VOL.
• If version 2 S-VOL is not the TrueCopy for Mainframe R-VOL.
• If extent is specified when you establish a relationship. You cannot use extents to establish a
relationship for a dataset copying.
• If TrueCopy for Mainframe R-VOL is in Simplex status.
• If TrueCopy for Mainframe pair status is Pending duplex.
• If TrueCopy for Mainframe R-VOL is in Duplex, Suspend, or SSWS status and the TrueCopy
for Mainframe M-VOL is in Simplex, or Pending duplex status.
