Figure 11 Shared Volume of XP Business Copy and XP Continuous Access: P-VOL/S-VOL
CAUTION: When you use an XP Business Copy P-VOL with an XP Continuous Access S-VOL as
shown in Figure 11 (page 28), the write operation to the XP Continuous Access P-VOL takes extra
time. Especially, when the XP Business Copy pair is in the PSUS(SP) status, the write operation to
the XP Continuous Access P-VOL may take time according to the time for copying process of the
XP Business Copy pair.
In addition, in the case of HP XP Continuous Access Journal Software, the XP Continuous Access
pair may be suspended by failure because of the shortage of the capacity of its journal volume.
When you split XP Business Copy pairs, if a volume is shared with XP Continuous Access
asynchronous and XP Business Copy, consider the following points:
• Split the XP Business Copy pair, after you have changed the status of the XP Continuous Access
asynchronous pair to PSUS or PSUE.
• If you split the XP Business Copy pairs for each consistency group, split the pairs after you
change the status of all XP Continuous Access asynchronous pairs in the specified consistency
group to PSUS or PSUE, and also made the consistency time (C/T) of the consistency group
equal to the C/T of each XP Continuous Access asynchronous pair.
You can also prevent the XP Business Copy pairsplit operation, which is under the condition
described above. For details, call technical support.
The configuration shown in Figure 12 (page 29) illustrates a volume that is functioning as both an
XP Continuous Access P-VOL and an XP Business Copy P-VOL, while the S-VOL of the same XP
Continuous Access pair is also functioning as the P-VOL of another XP Business Copy pair. This
configuration allows:
• On-site backup copies of XP Continuous Access P-VOLs and S-VOLs
• Remote backup of XP Business Copy P-VOLs
