6 Preparing for Version 2 Operations

Requirements for Version 2
CAUTION: Version 1 and Version 2 cannot be used simultaneously. If one or more Version 1
relationships exist in the storage system, you cannot establish any Version 2 relationships until you
withdraw all existing Version 1 relationships.
You can establish a Version 2 relationship not only for simplex volumes, but also for ShadowImage
for Mainframe S-VOLs or T-VOLs in a status other than simplex. For information about sharing
volumes with ShadowImage for Mainframe, see “Using Version 2 with ShadowImage for Mainframe”
(page 54).

The controller emulation type of an S-VOL and a T-VOL
must be the same.
Controller emulation type
Version 2 can use a volume whose LDKC:CU:LDEV (LDKC:
control unit image: logical device ID) is between 00:00:00
and 00:FE:FF, and between 01:00:00 and 01:FE:FF.
Available volume
“Emulation Types Supported by Version 2” (page 64) lists the emulation types supported by Version
2 and the conditions for the combination of S-VOL and the T-VOL.

If the emulation type starts with 3390, you can specify volumes with different emulation types for
the S-VOL and the T-VOL. However, you cannot establish a relationship using a 3380-3 volume
and a volume whose emulation type starts with 3390. In the case of a 3380-3 volume, you must
specify 3380-3 volumes for both the S-VOL and the T-VOL.
The specified extent must be within the range of the user cylinders in each volume.
