HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Business Copy Software User Guide (T5213-96034, May 2011)
Creating Pairs
CAUTION: The XP Business Copy paircreate operation overwrites all existing data on the S-VOLs.
The user is responsible for backing up the data on the S-VOLs before creating XP Business Copy
pairs.
The Paircreate dialog box (see Figure 32 (page 68)) allows you to select the S-VOLs for each
P-VOL, set the copy pace for all pairs being created, and start the paircreate operations. For
information about how to create normal pairs or cascaded L1 pairs, see “Creating L1 Pairs”
(page 71). For information about how to create cascaded L2 pairs, see “Creating L2 Pairs”
(page 72).
To create new XP Business Copy pairs and then split them immediately to access the S-VOLs as
soon as possible, use the Pairsplit dialog box instead of the Paircreate dialog box to create and
split new pairs at the same time (see “Splitting Pairs” (page 74) for instructions).
Figure 32 Paircreate Dialog Box
The Paircreate dialog box consists of the following components.
• Paircreate Volume List
The Volume List located on the upper side of the Paircreate dialog box displays the following
information pertaining to the P-VOL and S-VOL used for creating a pair:
◦ P-VOL: Information about P-VOL displays in AAA-BB-CCC(XX:YY:ZZ) format.
AAA: Port ID (cluster and channel number)–
– BB: Group number of host group
– CCC: LU number
– XX:YY:ZZ: LDKC number:CU number:LDEV number
An LDEV number that ends with a pound or gate symbol (#) indicates that the LDEV is an
external volume (for example, 00:00:01#). An LDEV number that ends with a letter X
indicates that the LDEV is a virtual volume used by XP Thin Provisioning (for example,
00:00:01X). For details regarding the external volumes, see the HP StorageWorks
