About this Guide
1 Introduction This chapter introduces the audit logs created by the HP XP Remote Web Console or SVP (Service Processor) on the storage system. The SVP is a computer that is contained within the storage system. Users can access the audit logs that are output by the SVP, but the SVP itself is accessible only by HP personnel.
NOTE: Audit Log Administrator Role needs to be set to Modify or View for the user account of that storage administrator. 2. Click the ( , , or ) button in the HP XP Remote Web Console main window. The window to specify the download destination appears: • • ) appears when the number of saved lines in the audit log information Audit:Normal button ( file is below the threshold.
• If using a primary syslog server: • Select Enable in Output to Primary Server. • Enter the IP Address in Primary Server Setting. You do not have to enter the periods. • Enter the Port Number in Primary Server Setting. You can enter a number from 1 to 65,535. • If using a secondary syslog server: • Select Enable in Output toSecondary Server. • Enter the IP Address in Secondary Server Setting. You do not have to enter the periods. • Enter the Port Number in Secondary Server Setting.
Figure 1 Syslog Main Window Audit Log File Description The following table describes the audit log file components: Table 2 Audit Log File Components Component Audit Log Information File Syslog Information File File Name audit.log syslog.log Downloaded File Name auditYYYYMMDD.tgz syslogYYYYMMDD.
Component Audit Log Information File Syslog Information File Maximum File Size 122.5 MB 244.6 MB Threshold Once the audit log reaches its maximum capacity, the starting line of the oldest data begins to be overwritten with the starting line of the newest data (wrap around). When you reach 70% of this threshold, the yellow Audit:Warning button appears on the HP XP Remote Web Console Main window.
Introduction
2 Audit Log File Format This chapter describes the two types of audit log files and the items included in the files. • Audit Log Information File, page 29 • Syslog Information File, page 31 Audit Log Information File The audit log information file consists of both basic and detailed information about user logins, logouts and disk array configuration change operations. The detailed information includes an index representing each item and its setting's values.
No. Item Explanation 3 Date Year, month and day the audit log was created (YYYYMMDD). 4 Time Hour, minute, second and millisecond the audit log was created (HH:MM:SSxxx). 5 Time zone The time difference between Universal Time (UT) and the local time appears as ±HH:MM (HH: hour, MM: minute). 6 Function name The abbreviation indicating the function or option which has been used to perform the setting operation is output. 7 Operation or event name The operation or option name.
Symbol Definition + means the beginning of the index. The number of occurrences of + represents the number of indents. - means that the line continues from the previous line. = Connects an index and a setting value. [] When there is more than one setting value for one index, the setting values are enclosed by [ ], and separated by a comma (,). Example: CU:LDEV=[0x00:0x00,0x00:0x01,0x00:0x02] {} Details are enclosed by {}.
Figure 3 Syslog Information File Table 6 Items in the Syslog File No. Item Description 1 Priority The priority according to the following formula, enclosed by brackets (< >): Priority = 8 × Facility + Severity Facility is 1 (fixed). The Severity depends on the type of log information: 3: Error. The operation has ended abnormally. 4: Warning. The operation has partly ended abnormally or was canceled during the operation. 6: Informational. The operation has ended normally.
No. Item Description 5 Unified specification identification information The Unified specification identification character (CELFSS). 6 7 8 Message identification information 9 Date, time#2 The revision number of the Unified specification document (1.1). The serial number of the syslog header information. Message ID. Not displayed because it is not used. The date, time and the time difference between UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) in the format of YYYY-MM-DD-Thh:mm:ss.
No. Item Description 16 Generated location information Not displayed because it is not used. 17 Related information The location identification name set by the user in the Syslog window. 18 FQDN. Not displayed because it is not used. 19 Redundant identification information. Not displayed because it is not used. 20 Agent information Not displayed because it is not used. 21 Detailed information Host sending the request. Not displayed because it is not used. 22 Port sending the request.
No. Item Description • The event name is displayed instead of the operation when the function is [AuditLog]. See Table 3 and Table 7. 30 The same information contained in the basic information of the audit log information file is also displayed. For more information, see Figure 2.

Understanding the Audit Log Information File
4 Sample Audit Logs The following chapters provide a sample audit log for each function and operation that can be performed with the HP XP Remote Web Console. The individual items in each sample log are described, starting with function name. This includes function name, operation name, parameter, operation result, and sequence number, as shown in Figure 4.
