1 Introduction This chapter introduces the audit logs created by the HP StorageWorks XP Remote Web Console computer or SVP (Service Processor) on the storage system. The SVP is a computer that is contained within the storage system. Users can access the audit logs that are output by the SVP, but the SVP is accessible only by HP personnel.
Download the Audit Log Information Files to the Remote Web Console Computer Only the storage administrator can download the audit log file, and the Audit Log Administrator Role needs to be set to Modify or View. See the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Remote Web Console User Guide for details for the Remote Web Console main window. To download the audit log information file using the Audit button: 1. Log on as a storage administrator and open the Remote Web Console main window. 2. 3.
2. 3. 4. 5. Log on as a storage administrator and open the Remote Web Console main window. Change to Modify mode. Click Go-Security-Audit log Transfer in the menu bar of the Remote Web Console main window. The Audit Log Transfer window displays. (see Figure 1 (page 15)). Select one of the following: • • 6. 7. 8. If using a primary FTP server: ◦ Select Enable in Output to Primary Server. ◦ Enter the IP Address in the Primary Server Setting. Do not enter the periods.
Figure 1 Audit Log Transfer Window Transferring the Audit Log Files to Syslog Servers Audit logs of the storage system can be transferred to a syslog server, the audit log in the same format with the audit log transferred to the syslog server can be downloaded as syslog information file. The protocol used to transfer audit logs to a syslog server is UDP (User Datagram Protocol). Consider the characteristics of UDP in the network setting when audit logs are transferred to the syslog server.
5. Select one of the following: • If using a primary syslog server: ◦ • 7. 8. 9. 16 – Enter the IP Address in Primary Server Setting. Do not enter the periods. – Enter the Port Number in Primary Server Setting. You can enter a number from 1 to 65,535. If using a secondary syslog server: ◦ 6. Select Enable in Output to Primary Server. Select Enable in Output to Secondary Server. – Enter the IP Address in Secondary Server Setting. Do not enter the periods.
10. Confirm that the syslog server is receiving the log of syslog server setting when the setting operation is completed. AuditLog is the function name of the log and Set Syslog Server is the operation name (see “Set Syslog Server Operation” (page 45)). If the log is not received by the syslog server, verify that the IP address and the port number set matches with the IP address and the port number of the syslog server. If the IP address and the port number matches, check the syslog server setting.
4. 5. 6. Select one of the following for Audit Log Buffer: • Enable to temporarily store audit logs in a system disk before storing the logs in the SVP. • Disable to store audit logs directly in the SVP. Click Apply. A confirmation message appears. Click OK. Figure 3 Audit Log Setting Window Audit Log File Description The audit log file includes the components listed in Table 1 (page 18).
Table 1 Audit Log File Components (continued) Component Audit Log Information File Syslog Information File Linefeed Codes CR + LF (Some text editors cannot display these codes correctly) LF File Output Contains login and logout information as well as basic and detailed information about settings made for each option. Basic information consists of information common to each audit log. Detailed information consists of information about the operations of each executed option.
2 Audit Log File Format This chapter describes the two types of audit log files and the items included in the files. • “Audit Log Information File” (page 20) • “Syslog Information File” (page 22) Audit Log Information File The audit log information file consists of both basic and detailed information about user logins, logouts and disk array configuration change operations. The detailed information includes an index representing each item and its setting's values.
Table 2 Items in Audit Log Information File (continued) No. Item Explanation 6 Function name2 The abbreviation indicating the function or option which has been used to perform the setting operation is output. See “Audit Log Information File Functions, Operations, and Programs” (page 27) for the relationship between the abbreviation output and the actual function. This information is not output when commands are received from the host.
1 2 3 A date and a time being set on SVP are output as log data. If a failure, such as a SVP failure and a LAN failure, occurs in the storage system, the date and time may be output with the date and time of January 01, 1970. Function names are used as section titles in “Sample Audit Logs of Remote Web Console PC and SVP Operations” (page 38). Operation or event names are used as subsection titles in “Sample Audit Logs of Remote Web Console PC and SVP Operations” (page 38).
Figure 5 Syslog Information File Table 4 Items in the Syslog File No. Item Description 1 Priority The priority according to the following formula, enclosed by brackets (< >): Priority = 8 x Facility + Severity Facility is 1 (fixed). The Severity depends on the type of log information: 4: Error or Warning. Error means the operation has ended abnormally. Warning means the operation has partly ended abnormally or was canceled during the operation. 6: Informational. The operation has ended normally.
Table 4 Items in the Syslog File (continued) No. Item Description 7 Message identification information The serial number of the syslog header information. Date, time#21 The date, time and the time difference between UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) in the format of YYYY-MM-DD-Thh:mm:ss.s hh:mm (YYYY: year, MM: month, DD: day, hh: hour, mm: minute, ss.s: second, hh: hours of the time difference and mm: minute of the time difference) 8 9 Message ID. Not displayed because it is not used.
Table 4 Items in the Syslog File (continued) No. Item Description 21 Detailed information Identification information for the host sending the request is displayed. For more information, see “Audit Log Information for the Commands Sent from the Host” (page 252). This information is output when commands are received from the host. However, the information is not output when FC-SP are received. 22 Port sending the request. Not displayed because it is not used. 23 Host to which the request is sent.
Table 4 Items in the Syslog File (continued) No. Item Description The same information contained in the basic information for the audit log information file is also displayed. For more information, see each operation name in “Audit Log Information File” (page 20). 1 A date and a time being set on SVP are output as log data. If a failure, such as a SVP failure and a LAN failure, occurs in the storage system, the date and time may be output with the date and time of January 01, 1970.
3 Information Output in the Audit Log Information File This chapter shows the relationship between the audit log functions, operations, and option names.
