Establishing Ve rsion 2 Relationships by Volumes Using the DFSMSdss Command
The DFSMSdss command used to process the Version 2 volume copy operation is COPY FULL. The
following table shows the parameters you can use with the DFSMSdss comm a nd when you establish
Version 2 relationships by volumes.
Table35Parametersfor theDFSMSdssCommand (Version 2/Volume Copying)
Parameter
Value
Description
COPYVOLID
N/A
The COPYVOLID command option allows you to select
whether you want to copy the ID label (VOLSER). When
you specify COPYVOLID, the ID label of the volume set as
thesourceiscopiedtothe volume that is setasthe target.
When the
COPYVOLID command is executed, the volume
used as the target is set to ofine automatically.
The COPYVOLID command had to be specied for
volumes controlled by SMS. However, when the
DUMPCONDITIONING command added by APAR
OW456 74 is specied,the VOLSER of thesourcevolume
is
copied to the backup tape or disk. In this case, there is
no need to specify COPYVOLID to copy the volume label.
DUMPCONDITIONING
N/A
DUMPCONDITIONING is used when you want to specify
that the
purpose of the copy operation is to create a backup
copy and not for using the copied volume for application.
FCNOCOPY
N/A
This command sets the copy operation mode to NOCOPY
mode. When this comm and is specied, the background
copying process is omitted from the copy operation.
FASTREPLICATION
PREFERRED
Executes the Version 2 copy operation as a priority. If
Version 2 cannot be used, executes the Concurrent Copy
or
copy operation via the host.
When FASTREPLICATION is not specied, the copy
operationwillbeperformed in thesameway as when
PREFERRED is specied.
REQUIRED
Executes the Version 2 copy operation unconditionally. If
Version 2 cannot be used, reports an error.
NONE
Does not execute the Version 2 copy operation.
FCCGFREEZE
N/A
This option is for temporarily suspending the write
operationfromthe host to theS-VOLswhenyou establish
relationships in order to maintain the consistency of data.
To resume the write operation from the host to the S-VOLs,
use the DFSMSdss CGCREATE command or the TSO
FCWITHDR command.
For information about the FCWITHDR command, see
Releasing a Version 2 Relationship Using FCWITHDR on
page 83. For details about the process of suspending and
resuming the write operation from the host to the S-VOLs,
see Using Consistency Groups for Dataset Copies that
Span Volumes on page 46.
DEBUG FRMSG*
By specifying this option, you will be able to receive
information describing the error and its cause(s) in case the
Version2copy operationfails. You canalsospecify the
