HP StorageWorks XP24000 for FlashCopy Mirroring Software User's Guide (T5240-96001, June 2007)
You can use the Compatible FlashCopy Information dialog box (see Figure 66 on page 99) to check the
number of remaining resources that are currently available. Check the Compatible FlashCopy Information
dialog box when you create a Version 2 relationship.
Note:
The following software programs share the resources used for copy operations:
• ShadowImage for Mainframe
• Business Copy
• XP Snapshot
• Auto LUN
The resources used by ShadowImage for Mainframe, Business Copy, XP Snapshot, and Auto LUN cannot
be used for Version 2. The resources that remain when you exclude the resources used by ShadowImage
for Mainframe, Business Copy, XP Snapshot, and Auto LUN from the total resources are the available
resources for Version 2. For details about the calculation of the resources used by each software
program, see the following manuals:
• Hitachi ShadowImage for z/OS User's Guide
• HP StorageWorks XP24000 Business Copy Software User’s Guide
• HP StorageWorks XP24000 Snapshot User’s Guide
• HP StorageWorks XP24000 Auto LUN Software User’s Guide

Use
the following expression to calculate the total number of resources to be used per relationship:
Total num
ber of the
differential tables per relationship = ((X) + (Y)) × 15 ÷ (Z)
•(X): The n
umber
of cylinders in the volume.
•
(Y): The number of control cylinders ( see Table 28 on page 56).
•(Z): The
number of slots that can be managed by a differential table.
(1,916×32)
Note that you should round up the number to the nearest whole number.
The foll
owing table shows the number of control cylinders for each emulation t ype.
Table 28
The Number of Control Cylinders for Each Emulation Type
Emulation Type
Number of Control Cylinders
3380-3
7
3390-3 6
3390-9 25
3390-L 23
3390-M
53
The number of resources to be used per relationship is the total number of the resources of the copy
source a
nd
copy target. For example, in the case of a volume with emulation t ype 3390-3, if the
number
of cylinders of the d ivided volume is 3,390 ((X) in the expression that calculates the total
number of the resource), the calculation of the total number of the differential table is as follows:
Copy so
urce: (3,339 + 6) ×15÷ (1,916 ×32) = ↑0.81836↑ =1
Copy target: (3,339+6)×15 ÷(1,916 ×32) = ↑0.81836↑=1
When
you round up 0 .81 836 to the nearest whole number, it be com es 1. Therefore, the total
number of resources to be used for one relationship is 2 when the emulation type is 3390-3.
When
v
olumes differ in emulation type and capacity, the numb er of relationships that can be
established is determined according to the following condition.
Note:
For details about the calculation of the total number of resources to be used per relationship,
see
the expression described above.
The ma
ximum number of relationships that can be established is the largest number that meets the
equat
ion, Σ(α) ≤ (β), where:
• Σ(α) stands for the total number of resources used per relationship
