Performance Monitor
The Performance Monitor software product provides detailed information on the I/O activity and
hardware performance of the storage systems. Performance Monitor can be used to monitor the storage
systems which will be (or already are) performing Continuous Access Journal operations. The storage
system usage and performance data collected and displayed by Performance Monitor enables you to:
Identif y the optimum timing to perform Continuous Access Journal data d uplexing operations (for
example, during periods of light system I/O activity),
Determine the best locations for the Continuous Access Journal S-VOLs (for example, in parity
groups with less frequently accessed volumes to avoid bottlenecks of backend activity),
Monitor storage system performance during Continuous Access Journal operations and during
testing activities.
Performance Monitor data collection does not affect storage system operations in any way. However,
Performance Monitor data collection can cause a signicant a mount of trafconthe storage system
internal LAN, especially when Performance Monitor is collecting a large amount of LDEV data. To
prevent timeouts from occurring while you are performing Continuous Access Journal (or other) operations
on the
Remote Web Console computer, you may want to decrease the Per formance M onitor data
collection activities before using the Remote Web Console software. This reduces storage system
internal LAN trafc, so that inquiries and commands issued by the Remote Web Console computer can
be
processed more quickly.
