HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Journal Software User and Reference Guide, v01 (T5278-96001, June 2007)

1. Install Continuous Access Synchronous and Continuous Access Journal. Congure the ports
and journal groups.
2. Issue a request for creating a Continuous Access Syn chronous pair to the primary storage system
where Continuous Access Synchronous is installed.
3. Wait until the status of the Continuous Access Synchronous pair b e com es PAIR.
4. Issue a request for creating a Continuous Access Journal pair to the Continuous Access Journal
primary storage system.
When
creating a Continuous Access Journal pa ir, be sure to select a value from 1 to 3 as the
mirror ID.
5. Wait until the status of the Continuous Access Journal pair becomes PAIR.
Note:
You must ensure tha t the Continuous Access Synchronous pair status changes to PAIR before the
Continuous Access Journal pair status changes to PAIR. If you have made a request for changing the
Continuous Access Journal pair status to PAIR before the Continuous Access Synchronous pair status
changes to PAIR, the request will be rejected.
For detailed information about installing and using Continuous Access Synchronous, see Hitachi TrueCopy

Access Synchronous (3DC Multi-target Conguration)
The stora
ge
system provides a function to combine Continuous Access Journal and Continuous Access
Synchronous. In a system where Continuous Access Journal and Continuous Access Synchronous are
combined, there are one primary site and two secondar y sites. One of the secondary sites is for
synchron
ous remote copy, and is usually located a shor t distance from the primary site. The other
secondary site is for asynchronous remote copy, and is usually located a long distance from the primary
site. Such a system conguration is called a three da ta center (3D C) multi-target conguration.
A3DC multi-target conguration provides a solution for disaster recovery and business continuity. Even
when a disaster or failure occurs at t wo sites at the same time, you can restart your business tasks by
using the data in the remaining secondary site.
The gure below illustrates a 3DC multi-target cong u ration where Continuous Access Journal and
Continuous Access Synchronous are combined. In this conguration, there are three sites as follows:
Prima
ry site for b oth Continuous Access Synchronous and Continuous Access J ournal
Secondary s ite for Continuous Access Synchronous
Secondary site for Conti nuous Access Journal
