HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Journal Software User and Reference Guide, v01 (T5278-96001, June 2007)
Business Copy and ShadowImage for Mainframe
The Business Copy and Shad owImage for Mainframe data duplication features for the storage system
enable you to set up and maintain multiple copies of volumes within the same storage system. Business
Copy operations for UNIX/PC server-based data can be per formed using the licensed Business Copy
remote console software or the RAID Manager software o n the UNIX/PC server host. ShadowImage for
Mainframe operations are performed using the ShadowImage for Mainframe remote console soft ware,
and
can also be managed via TSO and/or ICKDSF commands.
The RAID-pro
tected Business Copy duplicates are created within the same storage system at hardware
speeds. Business Copy can be used in conjunction with Continuous Access Journal to maintain multiple
copies of critical data at your primary and/or secondary sites and provide ma ximum flexibility in data
backup and du
plication activities. See “Business Copy” on page 53 for further i nformation on com bining
Continuous Access Journal and Business Copy operations.
This user’s gu ide does not cover Business Copy operations. For information and instructions on performing
Business Copy operations, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Business Copy Software User’s Guide or
the
Hitachi ShadowImage for z/OS User’s Guide, or contact your HP service representative.
HP StorageWorks XP Continuous Access Software and
TrueCopy for Mainframe
The Continuous Access and TrueCopy for Mainframe data duplication features enable you to create
copies of volumes in two different storage systems at remote loc ations. Continuous Access operations for
UNIX/PC server-based data can be performed using the licensed Continuous Access remote console
software or the RAID M anag er software on the UNIX/PC server host. TrueCopy for Mainframe operations
are performed using the TrueCopy for Mainframe remote console software, and can also be managed
via TSO and/or ICKDSF commands.
Continuous Access provides synchronous (HP StorageWorks XP Continuous Access Synchronous Software)
and asynchronous (HP StorageWorks XP Continuous Access Asynchronous Software) copy modes.
Continuous Access Synchronous provides volume-based, real-time d ata backup. Continuous Access
Asynchronous provides volume-based data backup at a time other than the host-requested write operation
to
prevent an increase in response tim e to the host. Continuous Access Synchronous operations suppor t
the
disaster recovery system by a three d ata center (3DC) configuration with Continuous Access Journal
operations. See “Continuous Access Synchronous (3DC Cascading Configuration)” on page 58 for further
informationoncombining Continuous Access Journal with Continuous Access Synchronous operations.
This user’s guide does not cover Continuous Access operations. F or information and instructions on
performing Continuous Access op erations, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access
Software User and Reference Guide or the Hitachi TrueCopy for z/ OS User and Reference Guide,or
