Each mana
ged device has certain types of information, including the conguration information, the status
informat
ion for device, and statistical, which is known collectively as a Management Information Base
(MIB). E
ach parameter is called a managed object, and it consists of the parameter name, one or
more par
ameter(s), and a group of operations that can be executed with the object. The MIB denes
the typ
e of information that can be obtained from a managed device, and the device settings that
can be c
ontrolled from a management system.
SNMP Manager Functions
Provides functions such as displaying the information gathered from multiple SNMP agents graphically,
accumulating the information in to a database, and analyzing problems using the accumulated
information.

SNMP Traps
An SNMP agent reports an error of a storage system to SNMP manager using the trap report function.
If an error occurs, an SNMP agent issues an SNMP trap to an SNMP manager to report a failure. Issuing
an SNMP trap, an SNMP agent also reports a product number, a nickname, a reference code, and
an identier of component.
Table 4 on page 13 lists the events that trigger an SNMP agent trap.
