44 Continuous Access XP for the XP10000/XP12000
Figure 19 shows the process of the copying of access attribute when you create a pair using the volumes
with VMA.
Figure 19 Copying access attributes
As you can see in Figure 19, if both the P-VOL and S-VOL have VMA, the P-VOL’s VMA is copied to the
S-VOL. In Figure 19, the S-VOL’s access attribute is Read/Write when the pair status is SMPL. After the
P-VOL’s VMA is copied to the S-VOL, the S-VOL’s access attribute becomes Read Only, which is the same
as the P-VOL’s access attribute of the P-VOL. Note that when the pair status is PAIR, copied information
about the access attribute is not effective, so the S-VOL’s access attribute is still Read/Write. To make the
copied information about the access attribute effective, suspend or delete the pair with the Pairsplit-r or
Pairsplit-S operation and make the pair status PSUS or SMPL. However, even if the pair is suspended, the
S-VOL Disable setting is not effective. To make the S-VOL Disable setting effective, delete the pair. For more
information about pair status and operations related to the access attribute, see Table 14.
