Continuous Access XP Journal user guide 65
Hardware configurations
A 3DC multi-target configuration requires the following sites:
Primary site for Continuous Access XP Synchronous and Continuous Access XP Journal
Secondary site for Continuous Access XP Synchronous
Secondary site for Continuous Access XP Journal
Each site requires one XP10000/XP12000. For Command View XP, a management station is also
required. HP recommends that you install RAID Manager in the host computers at each site.
The following hardware configuration is required for the XP10000/XP12000 at these sites:
Local disk array at the primary site:
Continuous Access XP (synchronous) installed
Continuous Access XP Journal installed
A volume used as a Continuous Access XP (synchronous) primary volume and as a Continuous
Access XP Journal primary data volume
A Continuous Access XP Journal master journal volume
Local disk array at the Continuous Access XP Synchronous secondary site:
Continuous Access XP (synchronous) installed
Continuous Access XP Journal installed
A Continuous Access XP (synchronous) secondary volume
NOTE: This volume might be used as a Continuous Access XP Journal primary data volume when
disaster recovery is performed at the primary site. For more information, see ”Recovering from
primary site failures” on page 66.
A Continuous Access XP Journal master journal volume
NOTE: This volume might be required to create Continuous Access XP Journal pairs when disaster
recovery is performed at the primary site. For more information, see ”Recovering from primary site
failures” on page 66.
Local disk array at the Continuous Access XP Journal secondary site:
Continuous Access XP Journal installed
A Continuous Access XP Journal secondary volume
A Continuous Access XP Journal restore journal volume

2. At the primary site, create a Continuous Access XP Synchronous pair.
3. Wait until the status of the Continuous Access XP Synchronous pair becomes PAIR.
4. At the primary site, create a Continuous Access XP Journal pair.
When creating a Continuous Access XP Journal pair, select a value from 1 to 3 as the mirror ID.
5. Wait until the status of the Continuous Access XP Journal pair becomes PAIR.
