Specification
Pair objects
Logical devices (LDEVs): Mainframe and
multiplatform devices that are supported by storage
system, including custom-size devices of Virtual LVI.
Devices must be installed and formatted. The S-VOL
and T-VOL must be of the same type and same
size (e.g., 3390-3R to 3390-3R allowed, 3380-K
to 3390-9 not allowed). A custom-size S-VOL must
be paired with a T-VOL of the same type and same
size. A combination of mainframe and multiplatform
devices for creating a Hitachi ShadowImage pair is

Volumes that are specified as URz journal volumes

Number of copies
Maximum three copies (T-VOLs) per source volume
(S-VOL).
Maximum number of pairs
Maximumof8,192pairs(8,192S-VOLsand8,192
T-VOLs) can be created per storage system. The
maximum number of pairs equals the total number of

Snapshot,andFlexCopyXPvolumepairs.
For more information, see section “Calculating
Maximum Number of Pairs”onpage23.
