Integrating HP Software Delivery Repository with Red Hat Network Satellite™

Abstract

This HOWTO explains the step by step procedures for utilizing Red Hat’s systems management

platform, Red Hat Network Satellite, to deploy Linux and HP software products for use on HP

ProLiant servers. With the recent introduction of the HP Software Delivery Repository,

administrators now can integrate the delivery of HP software products, like the ProLiant Support

Pack, directly into the Red Hat Network Satellite platform, resulting in a streamlined delivery of

software products into target systems.

Overview

The tasks explained in this document assume an available and operational Red Hat Network

Satellite server and optionally one Linux host with network access to the HP Software Delivery

Repository. In addition, the administrator performing these tasks must have the appropriate rights to

create and manage channels on the Red Hat Network Satellite platform, and depending on the

version of Red Hat Network Satellite utilized, have both web and command line administrative

access.

The entire process described in this HOWTO can be completed on the Red Hat Network Satellite

platform; however, if the administrator elects to use multiple hosts, some files will ultimately have to be

transferred, or at least made available, to the Red Hat Network Satellite platform.

Integration Steps

Conceptually, the integration of the HP Software Delivery Repository within an instance of Red Hat

Network Satellite platform requires the following processes:

 Obtain the desired software product meta-data information from HP

 Download the desired software product combination

 Create a new custom or private software channel on the Red Hat Network Satellite platform and

associate it with desired parent channel subscriptions

 Populate the software content into the new channel

HP Note

The above processes can be repeated as many times as necessary

to provide the desired system coverage for the available software
