Architecture
The ProLiant SL4500 server series uses an architecture that brings high storage capacity close to the processing power. You
can choose between one-, two-, and three-node chassis configurations with 60, 25, and 15 drives per node, allowing you to
select the optimum core-to-spindle ratio for your application.
Architectural features of all models include:
One or two high-speed processors per server node
Six DDR3 DIMM slots per processor (12 DIMMs total)
Two small form factor (SFF) HDDs per server node for OS and application storage
One low-profile PCI-Express slot with up to eight lanes, for adding a network card (1-Gb and 10-Gb Ethernet options), an
HP I/O Accelerator, or a second array controller for expansion to additional storage
Two, 1-Gb Ethernet network connections (10-Gb optional) for connectivity to external networks
One HP Smart Array P420i controller for high HDD throughput with RAID functionality
The HP Integrated Lights Out (iLO) management chipset for hardware monitoring and alerting functionality from the
moment of power and network connectivity
A management module for server and power management connectivity
A LFF drive array in one of the following configurations:
60 drives in one-node configuration
50 drives in two-node configuration (25 drives per node)
45 drives in three-node configuration (15 drives per node)
Figure 2 shows the architecture of the HP ProLiant SL4500 server chassis. Each chassis consists of one, two, or three nodes
each with its own drive array controller and dedicated drive array, and management module.
