Operating System Updates
Be careful when applying operating system updates. Check the bug fix list that
comes with each update first. If there are no specific fixes that you require, it
is recommended that you do NOT apply the updates. Some updates overwrite
Compaq-specific files.
If you decide to apply an operating system update:
1. Perform a full system backup.
2. Apply the operating system update, using the instructions provided with
it.
3. Install the current Compaq drivers. See the section, “Maintaining
Current Drivers” in this chapter for instructions.
4. Reboot your system.
If you apply the update and have problems, check the latest QuickFind CD or
the Compaq website:
http://www.compaq.com/support/servers/
Follow the links for your server model, and then SoftPaqs. Compaq produces
SoftPaq files to correct these problems.
Restoring to a Backed-up Version
If you recently upgraded the operating system or software and cannot resolve
the problem, you can try restoring a previously saved version of the system.
Before restoring the backup, back up the current system. If restoring the
previous system does not correct the problem, you can restore the current set
to make sure you do not lose any added functionality.
Refer to the documentation provided with your backup software.
