Maintaining Current Drivers
Although basic device support is provided for all Compaq-supported devices,
you should check the Compaq Support Software Diskette (SSD) for your
operating system to see if updated drivers exist. Compaq enhances basic
support of some devices to increase performance and to add specific Compaq
support for features such as Compaq Insight Management Agents for
Windows NT.
IMPORTANT: This guide provides general information for several Compaq servers. Some
hardware or software information covered may not apply to your specific server. Some of
the examples or procedures may need to be modified for your work environment. Always
refer to your servers user documentation and maintenance and service guide for
information on procedures, hardware options, software tools and operating systems
supported by and specific to your server.
If you use SmartStart to automatically install and configure your operating
system, device drivers are loaded during the installation process.
For non-SmartStart installation and configuration, insert the Compaq
SmartStart and Support Software CD, boot your system, and select the Manual
Configuration path. Follow the screen instructions.
IMPORTANT: Always perform a backup before installing or updating device drivers.
For more information, refer to the documentation and online help provided
with your SmartStart and Support Software CD.
Windows NT
The Compaq Support Software Diskette for Windows NT (SSD) integrates all
of the driver update procedures into one application. When you run the SETUP
application from the SSD, it looks at all of the drivers that are currently loaded
and active under Windows NT then it will update those drivers from the SSD.
The SSD calls the Windows NT SETUP program and the Windows NT
Control Panel to update drivers, and uses its own SSD SETUP application to
update miscellaneous drivers. You only need to run the SETUP program from
the SSD, rather than having to run three separate applications.
