Check the Compaq resources, your software, and third-party product
resources for information about potential problems. Websites are
excellent places to find this information.
If possible, make changes in an incremental fashion. It is easier to
troubleshoot one change rather than several at once.
Record the results of each change after it is executed, making sure to
include any error messages or additional information collected.
Make sure you allow enough time to make the changes.
Check for potential device conflicts before adding a device.
If you are adding a processor, keep the terminator card. If you have a
processor problem, you can restore the server with the remaining
processors. Put terminator cards in all processor sockets not occupied by
processors.
If you are adding faster or larger hard drives to a storage system, a
thermal upgrade or power supply upgrade may be necessary. The heat
generated by some of the larger and faster hard drives may cause a
thermal overload without provisions for additional cooling.

Managing Updates Through an Integration
Server
Consider using an Integration Server as part of the SmartStart integration
process on a new server or during maintenance of an existing server. You can
create an Integration Server using the Compaq Integration Maintenance
Utilities. The Compaq Integration Maintenance Utility facilitates
network-based updates by managing the connection to the Integration Server
and providing a list of the supported updates available on the Integration
Server.
The Integration Maintenance Utility can also access software for server
updates on the SmartStart and Support Software CD, the Compaq
Management CD, and the Compaq Software Products CDs.
