Automatic Server Recovery
Compaq servers provide a recovery service that causes the system to reboot in
the event of a catastrophic operating system error such as a blue screen trap,
ABEND or kernel panic. This system failsafe timer, called Automatic Server
Recovery (ASR), is started when the health driver is loaded, and can be
disabled from within the Compaq Insight Manager console.
This timer resets periodically during normal server operations, but in the event
of an operating system failure, the timer expires, and resets the server. ASR
increases server operations efficiency by restarting the server within 10
minutes after a crash or system hang. ASR also sends a notification of the
recovery event to the Compaq Insight Manager console.
