Running the Compaq System Erase Utility
IMPORTANT: Perform a backup before running the Compaq System Erase Utility. All data
and configuration information on your existing server is erased by the Erase Utility. This
utility sets the system to its original factory state, deleting the current hardware
configuration information (including array setup and disk partitioning) and erasing all
attached hard drives completely.
Run the Compaq System Erase Utility if you must erase the system because:
■ You will install a new operating system on a server with an existing
operating system.
■ You want to change your operating system selection.
■ You encounter an error during the SmartStart installation that causes a
failure.
Using the SmartStart and Support Software CD, you can perform one of the
following:
■ Run from CD
a. Boot the SmartStart and Support Software CD.
b. Select Run System Erase Utility from the menu screen.
The next screen that appears displays a warning message that all data
will be destroyed running this utility.
c. If you would like to erase your system, continue with the process,
following onscreen instructions.
■ Run from Diskette
a. Boot the SmartStart and Support Software CD.
b. Select Create Support Software from the menu screen.
The next screen asks if you want to create the software from CD
only or from an Integration Server.
c. Select Create software from CD only.
The next screen lists the products that are available for diskette
creation.
d. Select Compaq System Erase Utility and follow the instructions to
create your diskette.
e. Remove the SmartStart and Support Software CD.
f. Boot the diskette you have just created to run the Erase Utility.
