G: Terminology
This table provides definitions for common TeachNow-related terminology.
Term Description
Administrative Console
This is an administrator interface on the TeachNow server used by the TeachNow Administrator to
manage application suites and desktops.
Administrator
The administrator can be a local administrator or a domain administrator. The administrator has certain
rights depending on the type of administrator.
Application Suite
An application suite contains an operating system (Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 7) plus
software applications; it is the equivalent of disk image or virtual disk in other virtualization technologies.
The application suites are streamed to the clients: they boot off the operating system in the application
suite and they can use any of the software applications installed in the application suite, just as if the
virtual disk was actually connected to the clients.
Desktop or Student Desktop
This is a student station. The computing device is a streaming thin client.
Local Administrator
Administrator rights refers to certain privileges on a specific computer or server. In this document,
references to the local administrator mean the TeachNow server administrator or the desktop
administrator.
Some procedures include an instruction to run as administrator, which will give you the privileges of an
administrator on that computer or server for that specific procedure.
Student Console
This is the student's interface.
TeachNow Administrator
The TeachNow administrator is a member of the HP_TeachNow_Administration group. This individual
manages application suites through the Administrative Console.
Teacher Console
This is the teacher interface on the teacher's desktop or notebook PC used to share and manage class
information on the student desktops.
