Supporting HP TeachNow, v 1.1 update

HP TeachNow technical requirements
Server computer
The HP ProLiant ML110 G6 is the recommended server. However, customers can choose to use any server that meets the
specifications noted below.
Note: If the customer is not using an HP server model (with a valid warranty or service agreement), HP is not responsible
for the performance or operation of the server hardware. The non-HP server must meet or exceed the minimum server
specifications listed in this table.
Operating system
Windows Server 2008 R2
Main memory
2GB minimum
Processor
Intel Xeon quad-core
Hard drive capacity

Note: Global system performance depends on server. Hard-drive capacity must be large enough to hold all the images
you create.
Server OS
services
The HP TeachNow solution software should be installed on a “clean” OS. A clean OS is the standard W2K8 R2 install
that is not configured for any server roles that are not automatically installed as part of the standard install. The server
should not be configured to provide any services that are not automatically configured by the HP TeachNow installer. For
example:
• TeachNow installs and configures Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS). The TeachNow interfaces use web
technologies (PHP 5.3.0, in particular) and the IIS service is critical. Attempting to use the IIS service ofr other than
TeachNow operation can introduce incompatibilities that will disrupt TeachNow.
• DHCP (Distributed Host Configuration Protocol) is a requirement for allocating addresses to the clients, but DHCP
should not be run on the same server with TeachNow. Customers should obtain DHCP services from another source
on their network such as their network router or a separate server.
• DNS (Domain Name Service) should be available on the network, so users can use resource names rather than IP
addresses, but configuring DNS on the TeachNow server is not recommended or supported. DNS configuration
requires significant knowledge of the local network and general networking expertise. Typically, installations
configure their DHCP service to provide DNS addressing (the DNS gateway) along with the client IP addressing.
