Supporting HP TeachNow, v 1.1 update
HP st574x specs
The basic specs for the st574x models are very similar to the t574x thin clients, but there are some significant differences
as shown in the table below. For support purposes, the differences are important because:
• No wireless support: The st574x units cannot boot or run a streaming OS over a wireless connection.
Although a customer could install wireless drivers in the streaming image, and a wireless connection to a
separate network might be possible, this configuration is not supported and could interfere with the operation
of the TeachNow software.
• The units are not equipped with a flash module. If the customer has appropriate licensing agreements with
Microsoft, they can use an HP AMO option for a 16GB solid state disk (SSD) with a USB DVD/CD drive to
install a Windows XP Pro or Windows 7 OS onto the unit (see note below). This creates a “reference client”
from which the customer can capture an OS image through TeachNow. The captured image can then be used
to stream to multiple clients. This is the only supported purpose for the local flash memory.
• There is a second SODIMM slot on the back of the unit. Customers can purchase and install up to an
additional 2GB of memory (4GB total) to improve the performance of the locally executing streamed OS.

Note: The 16GB AMO option is a SATA SSD and it attaches to the
SATA connector shown here. This is the only HP supported storage
option for installing an OS on the st574x units. Customers may be
successful using other storage devices or connectors (such as HDD
and IDE). However, HP will not provide support if the customer has a
problem when using an unsupported method.
