Technologies for HP ProLiant 100-series G5 (Generation 5) servers, 2nd edition

Processor socket technology
ProLiant 100-series servers use Land Grid Array (LGA) socket technology to enable higher CPU bus
speeds. Instead of using pins for contacts, the processor packages use gold-plated copper pads that
touch processor socket pins on the motherboard. HP engineers developed a special installation tool to
simplify processor installation and reduce the possibility of damage to the socket pins. Table 1
identifies the processor types supported by the ProLiant 100-series models.
